Swaddled in Flippers
I am fortunate to live near enough to the Pacific Ocean that I can make the half-hour drive to watch the sea lions several times a month. I am fascinated by their precious baby pups, their social behaviors, and their freedom to live as they choose in the water and on the cliffs. This particular day, the sea lions were resting on the cliffs in large piles of female sea lions and their pups. This pup was in a pile of about a dozen females. It was sleeping soundly, completely surrounded by the flippers of its mother and aunties. This photograph definitely has the “AWWWWWW!!” factor. Surf Shack and Waves at Wind and Sea
This spot is an historic site where returning World War II Veterans built the first sea shack here to use as shelter during their surfing adventures. Though it has been rebuilt many times, it is considered a sacred spot by many surfers.
