The gracefulness of this California Brown Pelican in flight stands out against the roiling surf as it lands on the cliffs at La Jolla Cove in San Diego, CA. Its intense focus protects it from a faulty landing that could be a very dangerous mistake on a high surf day such as this one. I have many photographs of pelicans while perched and several of them in flight, but I have been trying to capture an image like this of an approach to landing for years and am so excited to share this one with you!
