Cormorant Eye on You
I had the opportunity to capture this up close view of a cormorant recently. Cormorants are commonly seen along the California Coast, however many people do not get the opportunity to see them up this close. These birds may dive as deep as 150 feet in the ocean looking for food. They build their nests right on the very edge of steep cliffs above the beach. As a mother, I do not know how they get a wink of sleep as their young hatch and move about in the nest long before their flight feathers develop. Yikes! But I feel their most outstanding feature is their aquamarine eyes that coordinate with their throat and lower body under-feathers. This photo looks especially stunning as a metal print. Please check it out on my website:
www.lifeimagesbygloria.com where you will also find additional wildlife shots as well as ocean scenes, mountain scenes, and wildflowers.

Surf Shack and Waves at Wind and Sea
This spot is an historic site where returning World War II Veterans built the first sea shack here to use as shelter during their surfing adventures. Though it has been rebuilt many times, it is considered a sacred spot by many surfers.
