There is this hidden gem in Paradise Park on the Big Island of Hawaii. It is only a short distance from my sister’s home and we had the prviledge of visiting it on a recent trip. Much of the eastern side of the island near Hilo has beautiful lava cliffs where the powers that form the island come together; the old, jagged lava flow, the pounding surf, and the bracing wind. As the sign indicates, this area is part of the Beach Road Conservation District and is considered a sacred place to the Hawaiian people. It is a beautiful place to contemplate life.

Sunlight sparkled off the choppy surf, thick fog blanketed the curving coastline, and sea spray moistened the air. This was the late afternoon scene on a warm November day at Carmel Beach in California. The rugged coastline and pounding surf provided multiple opportunities to experience the power of nature.
